Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary was this last weekend, on February 27, and Nintendo gave us a feast. In fact, all month Pokémon fans were well fed: anime marathons, Levi’s collaboration, Happy Meal TCG, Chonkachu Raid Events on Sword/Shield, etc.
On the day of the anniversary, we were treated with a virtual Post Malone concert. PokeMalone serenades the virtual crowds in a stadium and travels throughout Poke-regions surrounded by various mons, singing his best hits and his new song, a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You.” Which we find out is part of a compilation album coming this Fall featuring artists like J. Balvin and Katy Perry.
However, the day before anniversary, Pokémon officially announced a remake of the acclaimed main series game, Diamond and Pearl, called Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Trainers get to experience the Sinnoh region on the Nintendo Switch! Hearing this news after the dreadful rumors of a Let’s Go sequel set in Sinnoh was the most relieving feeling fans had felt in a while. The game is set to release end of 2021.
And that’s not all. They also announced a brand-new series Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Set in Sinnoh, before Diamond/Pearl when the people of the world are first discovering and settling in Sinnoh. You are tasked by a familiar Professor who is giving you the choice from 3 starters of other regions to create the Sinnoh Pokédex. The footage shows us a Pokémon with a completely fresh gameplay, a “Breath of the Wild” feel with our trainer diving into tall grass and throwing a Pokeball at a distance mon and catching it. And don’t worry there are still battles. This is essentially a Pokemon Origin Story, with Sinnoh’s mythical Pokemon, Arceus at the center of the plot. Some are wondering if they’re introducing a completely new Pokemon game series that is an origin story why not start with Kanto? 1. We just had a Kanto region game in “Let’s Go” so we’re pretty tired of that lol, but 2. Arceus is “The Original One” said to have created the Poke-universe so what better mon to start with than Poke-god. This game is set to release in early 2022.
And if that isn’t enough to excite you we’re also getting a new Pokémon Snap early-mid this year.
